One of the most transforming prayers we must pray is ‘Lord, show me myself’. We’re not fully aware of the depths that prayer travels until we utter it from our lips to God, with a submissive heart. Yet it is imperative that we pray the prayer. What God will reveal to us may be surprising, painful even. However, this courageous prayer will yield goodness and a resurrected life, if we heed God’s on-time response. God will not merely show us ourselves, but His revelation will also require action from us. Yes, learning our true selves is not enough. We must act on what is revealed to us. We must work to be a better version of ourselves, one whom God can be pleased, with His help and guidance. Ultimately, we must surrender to God and commit to being transformed in our living, thinking and speaking. The Bible is clear in how we should respond when God answers us.  James 1:22-25 says,

Don’t fool yourself into thinking that you are a listener when you are anything but, letting the Word go in one ear and out the other. Act on what you hear! Those who hear and don’t act are like those who glance in the mirror, walk away, and two minutes later have no idea who they are, what they look like.

But whoever catches a glimpse of the revealed counsel of God—the free life!—even out of the corner of his eye, and sticks with it, is no distracted scatterbrain but a man or woman of action. That person will find delight and affirmation in the action.” (The Message Bible)
